It was early in the morning. The curiously-built royal palace of Nipony loomed over the grand city of Tohoof as the sun slowly arose on the horizon. It was said in school by most of the teachers that, infact, there was an Alicorn responsible for such an action. Princess Celestia, ruler of Equestria and considered by the ponies and griffons of Nipony as a demigod. Even though she wasn't the direct ruler of the eastern archipielago country, it was true that her influence was present in Queen Endora's actions, as well as that of her Council. Even so, Kimono's family had been unable to look at the Princess, save for their ancient foremother, Chopstick. The Queen's right-hand councilwoman was often sent to Equestria as an ambassador and invited to the most important parties held in Canterlot alongside her childhood friend: Queen Endora's mother.
Smiling, a certain young filly walked off her futon, and took a seat by the window in order to gaze at her beautiful home. The tall mounts could be seen in the distance; the ones older masters and combat teachers were used to visit in order to meditate and practice in tranquility. Hundreds of small and large houses alike lined the streets below, which were in plain sight thanks to the window's very elevated location. The filly thought of the few merchants visible walking along the streets as extremely happy and peaceful ponies. They were always smiling, thanking the customers kindly and humbly, and, overall, they were extremely chatty between each other. The filly liked to see that, because it made her think of them as equals, quite easily.
The streets were slowly being covered in crowds of both ponies and griffons. Normally, these two species would not get along as easily as they did; yet, the nation of Nipony, as the young unicorn's history class stated once, managed to save a clan of griffons from dragon attacks and the victims, in exchange, took it upon themselves to help the ponies grow. Because of it, the griffons would eventually become equals and official citizens of Nipony under general law. The Council slowly began taking in these creatures, as did the various guilds that composed the capital, Tohoof, and its surrounding villages.
The frail unicorn filly took in a deep breath and skipped all the way to her mirror. She focused on her mane and, after a few minutes, her horn began gleaming. A dark blue niponian ribbon hovered out of the gabinet and wrapped itself along and across the mane, crafting a long, traditional braid. Even though it was a rather simple manestyle, it was rarely used by commoners. Nobles were the ones much more used to wearing such a kind of ribbons. The young female shaked her head in order to make sure that the ribbon was secured to the hair itself before picking up a similar ribbon, by the use of her magic too, and wrapping it around the tip of her tail firmly.
"Kimono! Come on downstairs, quick!" a worried, yet classy, feminine voice cried from the main parlor of the Chopstick Manor. The filly shot a quick gaze at the window once again before hopping off the stool and walking downstairs calmly. It was unusual for Kimono's mother to call her by name. Often, she used much more acceptable terms in public, such as 'My Daughter', or 'Our Child'. Sometimes, she called her the family's 'Joyful Flower', thought that only happened when they were alone. She certainly enjoyed herself being called in such a way, and had always intended to call her first daughter in such a way.
A tall, sturdy stallion was standing in front of the tea table located in the middle of the parlor. Across such a pony stood Sama, Kimono's mother. She was an overly thin pony, whose most attractive physical feature had always been her fine snout and long legs, according to Kimono's father. Her always juvenile face held a worried appearence; one the young filly knew extremely well. It was the same expression she took on whenever Kimono arrived late, or refused to eat her favorite meal. Except this time it was much more preoccupied. Sama smiled at her young daughter, attempting to make her believe nothing was wrong. Still, her words spoke differently.
"Kimono, this is no longer the place for you." she said as tears filled her eyes. "You must move away... You wanted to see Equestria." she continued, as the filly worriedly tilted her head in curiosity. "You're going to Equestria. To... Canterlot... That's where you will be living for a while... Don't worry about us." she finished, before throwing herself on the floor and looking down. The male pony then walked toward Kimono and kneeled.
The stallion's manestyle, as well as his facial hair of choice, was one she had never seen before in Nipony. Such a curiosity was cleared up as soon as he introduced himself to the filly. "Greetings, Kimono." he said, bowing his head in typical Niponian fashion. "You may call me Tuxedo. I hail from the far away land of Equestria. I'm a cousin of your mother and, as such, your uncle." he explained, smiling warmly. The young unicorn could not tell why, but her newly-found uncle appeared to be very nice and trustful. Plus, he lived in the place Kimono wanted to visit the most. Though the idea of living there was not as good as visiting as a tourist. THe unicorn could easily tell, though, that it wasn't for him to make this decision. Her mother believed it was best for her after all, and she loved her.
The pony galloped toward her room, and began packing everything that mattered to her in a small bag. Sama walked in right after her; apparently, she had already recovered. Taking a seat by the window, she began to speak. "My dearest petal... You must know that my actions have a reason. I'm sending you away with your uncle because I love you. Because I know we will not be able to live in a way you deserve to do so for long." she said, looking out the window as her daughter so often did. The ponies and griffons were walking in line, in the direction of the Castle. The Royal Guard was already barricading the Gardens. The mare swallowed, and pulled the window closed. "I will visit you very soon, Kimono..." she said, before kissing the young unicorn on the forehead and pushing her out the door and into the hallway. Strangely enough, the griffon butler was not at home, and neither were any of the maids. Uncle Tuxedo smiled at the filly, walking her outside.
