A story is known throughout Las Pegasus. A tale of one Unicorn, who gained riches, and everything he desired when he bet his life savings on one game. This Unicorn won, several hundred times in a row. Sneaking suspicions arose around this Unicorn, and when the proper authorities were told to look for the Unicorn, he was nowhere to be seen. It had been told that he skipped town the very next day. The citizens of Las Pegasus were baffled.
The suspicious Unicorn had done this to several towns. His vicious ways would also attract other ponies who wished to join his evil activities, which made it easier, and easier to finish the job. Sometimes he would use them as simple distractions, or pin the crime on them, getting off scot-free. This Unicorn hit Manehatten first, followed by New Grazeland, then Baltimare, finally Las Pegasus. He moved onto his newest destination of Fillydalphia and hasn't been heard from since.
However, a new and incredibly large hotel had also been built about a week after this Unicorn's disappearance. It seemed to be fit for a princess herself. It was more than twenty stories high, and was told to have a haunted basement below the ground. Every single floor had windows all around the hotel, which gave the citizens a beautiful view of all the other cities around them, given they were over the 15th floor. The top floor, however, had no windows, and the elevator inside didn't even have a button for the highest floor, only one lower. The stairwell stopped before reaching the top floor as well. Nopony had ever been up there.
But according to some ponies, loud noises, and smoke had been coming from the final floor, out of the chimney. At the front of the hotel, there was a large sign that read 'Hotel Philiphornia'. In smaller and italic caps under the sign was the slogan of the lovely building: 'Such a lovely place'. Many ponies were seen entering the building, but ever after waiting several days and nights, nopony had ever been seen leaving it. The only one who went near the door, was a secretary who worked in the hotel itself. Many officers wanted answers from this hotel, but none were given. They were denied all entry, which only made the place more suspicious.
Law enforcement had sent undercover spies into the hotel, who had got in successfully, and had many radio conversations about the interior of the hotel, but soon later, their telephones would cut off, and they would be unable to contact the undercover officer the next day, or ever again. Several officers went undercover, and their phones would all get cut off at 10:57pm. This confused the officers, but they didn't want to panic the citizens of Fillydalphia, so they kept it a nearly private case.
Several days and nights went by, and very little activity came from the front door of the building, which was the only way in. Very few had been in, and were able to talk about it afterwards, which tempted the officers to send in a unicorn with a camera. They sent him in a couple minutes after 10:57pm, and to their amazement, his camera was fully functional, sending waves to the station. The sun was down, and Luna was hard at work, shining the moon down on the sleepy ponies of the town when the Pegasus officer began walking to the front door of the hotel.
The roof let out a large puff of smoke, and a loud, ear piercing noise, which gave houses nearby a shake, and the ponies inside a small headache. The officer was stunned for a moment, but continued walking. The door began to creak open and the officer was greeted by a cerulean coated Pegasus, with dark red eyes. Aside from her pupils, this pony was quite a sight to behold. She wore jewellery around her legs, and had a long black mane, which blew to the side, even without wind. She looked to be pampered and clean. Her mane, and tail both slick, and she had a slender body. Her voice was almost angelic, but whenever she spoke, she would finish with what sounded like a whisper. It was under her breath, and sometimes sounded like a laugh. A small cackling laugh, it sounded innocent enough.
The officer approached the door and acted like this was the first time he'd seen the hotel. However, several undercover officers had been sent in, so he had no idea if she was suspicious or not. She blinked once, which seemed to be in slow motion, then opened her mouth. "Welcome to the Hotel Philiphornia". The officer thanked her for the greetings as he followed her to the counter. The counter had several keys on racks behind her, including ones for the basement, front door, attic, and the roof. She smiled and looked back at her collection of keys and began to run past them all with one hoof. "Plenty of room at the Hotel Philiphornia. Any time of year, you can find us here." She noted as she took a key with her wing, and turned back to him.
She grabbed a match with her other wing, and lit a small candle, as most of the other lights were out. She wrapped her wing around the candle, careful not to burn herself with it, and guided the officer down a long hallway. He asked her several questions, but she never responded. She continued to walk down the hallway, which seemed to twist and turn. She turned several corners, and began to increase her pace. Eventually, the officer couldn't keep up with her, and he came to the end of a hallway. When he looked at the dead end, it turned out to be his room, which he entered. The door locked behind him, as he paid no attention to it. He was in awe at the contents in his room.
The Pegasus picked up the key from the doorknob with her wing and looked towards the door. The officer turned around, and tried to open the door, but it was locked. The officer demanded the other Pegasus to let him out, but she responded calmly to him. "Sir, our customers are trying to sleep. I'll have to ask you to quiet down." When the officer demanded he wanted to leave the hotel, she replied. "We'll have you checked out of the hotel tomorrow morning." The officer agreed that this was something he could deal with. When he tried his telephone, he heard only buzzing, and crackles.
The Pegasus returned to the doorway, and the undercover officer was never heard of again. The police were still baffled, but didn't mention anything to the ponies who lived in the town. To make the matter worse, a train was scheduled to be arriving in Fillydalphia early the next morning.
