Spike could hardly contain his excitement as he stood in front of the boutique. He had done his chores as quickly as possible to try and get here early. Rarity had told him that she had worked out a few new designs that she was just dying to bring to life and had asked him to come over to try some of them out today. Of course, the dragon has eagerly agreed to help; how could he pass up a morning with the fair unicorn?
He took a quick check of himself before continuing. Spines were straight, scales were clean, his breath...well, it was no worse than usual. Spike breathed deeply to try and regain his composure. Rarity would need him sharp and alert for the day so he could be as helpful as possible! Finally calming himself down, he knocked on the wooden door of the boutique.

Flare had just come out of the shower after his daily practice session, and walked downstairs, stretching his wings a bit and shaking his legs. Most of his time nowadays was split between Rarity, his job as a courier and training, and today wasn't different; he'd wake up late, eat breakfast, and head out to do the deliveries for the day. After that, the Pegasus would dash to the Boutique, eat lunch, and dart to the Farrier Fields for aerobatics, and finally, some time before dinner, he'd return to the Carousel and spend the evening in.
The Pegasus brushed his wet mane with his wing and headed to the kitchen, when a knock on the door caught his attention. "Me be gettin' it, luv!" Horizon called out, turning around and trotting to the building's main entrance. He opened the door, and looked down at the baby dragon, the tall, imposing Pegasus looming over Spike. He blinked a few times, not recognizing him - he'd heard of Twilight's assistance, but didn't make the connection.. Rarity didn't often talk about her friends in his presence, nor did she seem too eager to introduce him to them. Maybe he was a new customer? "Yo", the Pegasus said briefly as a greeting.

Spike whistled merrily as he waited for Rarity to answer. The door creaked open and he began to feel his excitement reach its peak. However, instead of the beautiful white unicorn he expected, he was greeted by a sleek, black pegasus. There was definitely something intimidating about him, and it sure didn't help that the tall pony was almost twice his height!
"Er, hey," Spike started hesitantly. No, now was not the time to falter! The fair lady was waiting inside and he would not keep her waiting. He puffed out his chest and continued with confidence, "Rarity is expecting the help of her #1 assistant today," he said, pointing to himself. "Is she around?"

The Pegasus tilted his head. The 'assistant' finally sparked his bulbs, and the Pegasus grinned, stepping aside from the door, still holding it open with his wing. "Aye, yeah, ya be that Twi's dragon, aye? Me's hark o' ya afore. Rari's 'round. C'mon in." The stallion closed the door after the baby dragon made his way inside, and walked past him back towards the kitchen. "Rari, darlin'! Ya got guests!" He called out; the Unicorn was probably upstairs in her inspiration room, or something.
Horizon glanced at Spike, infinitely curious. He'd seen a dragon before.. but they weren't usually ones for talk, and the Pegasus had learned well that if there was one thing you didn't do to a dragon, that was try to steal its gold. He somehow doubted, though, that this particular drakeling would have much in the ways of fire-breathing or sharp, deadly claws.. he didn't even seem to have wings. "So, ye be some kinda, uh, helper, then? Rari don't talk much o' her friends, so ain't really up in the ropes with the goin' 'round the 'Ville." Not that he too much cared, either. Ponyville was such a sleepy town that didn't have much going for it, except for Rarity, of course, and though the Pegasus wanted to meet up with Rarity's friends, it was more knowing she would be fine with him around her friends, and less about Horizon actually caring to meet them. He hadn't even bothered to learn their names.

Spike nodded at his question and followed Horizon into the boutique. He took a good look over the pegasus as he followed. He wasn't so daunting now that he spoke to him. In fact, he seemed really cool. His voice reminded him of those smooth heroes that seemed to get all the fillies, and he was built like an athlete! Perhaps he was a Wonderbolt! Or he could be some sort of vigilante, prowling the streets in his dark form and rooting out crime. Those type of stories were among his favorites. Of course, Twilight had encouraged him to read some of the books in the library and he found the tales of heroes and their adventures to be to his liking. Spike shook his head and chuckled to himself. He was letting his imagination get to him.
He nodded again to Horizon's inquiry, "Right, I help Rarity all the time with her work, or, at least what I can help with," Spike cheerfully replied. "I can't take credit for any of the wondrous pieces she makes though. That's all of her genius," he added sheepishly. Now that he thought about it, Spike was sure he had never seen the pegasus around town ever.
"Are you a friend of Rarity's too? I don't think I've ever seen you around Ponyville before. The name's Spike, by the way. I live with Twilight in the library."

The Pegasus began whipping up something edible while he spoke with the dragonling, walking around the kitchen looking for foodstuffs, until at some point he seemed to lose interest and settled with fixing up a few sandwiches. "Ya help her?" He looked at Spike with a slight frown. "Huh, curious. Ain't ever heard o' a dragon bein' into tailorin'. " He shrugged and chomped down the sandwiches in a single go. Well, that wouldn't have been the oddest thing he'd ever seen or heard, but certainly out of the ordinary.
"Aye, me's seen ya 'round, figures. With Sparks 'round town." The Pegasus' wing unfolded and pushed a plate across the kitchen table towards Spike; there was still one sandwich remaining. "Reckon ya wyrms be devourin' gems an' nuggets more like, but ain't got none 'round now", he offered. "Name's Horizon Flare, Scales. Me's with Rari presently." The stallion looked up and sighed. "Rarity!" He yelled, louder this time. "C'mon down!" The stallion cleaned up the mess he had made in the kitchen, expecting the white unicorn to come down any moment now. She should've heard him, at least.

Rarity, during the entire conversation was upstairs in her inspiration room. She heard Horizon call out to her several times, but she didn't leave her inspiration room while she was onto a new idea. Not for anypony. Rarity finished her idea, and set everything else aside on the floor, and ran downstairs, angry that she had been yelled at all this time. She stomped her hooves down each step, growling that she had to be interrupted.
"Horizon Flare! What in Equestria are you doing...! You know not to interrupt me when I'm in my-" Rarity cut herself off as she noticed the guest. "Oh! Spikey-Wikey! So glad you've come! You should have told me Spikey-Wikey was here! I would have gladly set my things aside for little Spikey-Wikey." Rarity smiled as she hurried over to a treasure chest suitcase that she set aside, specifically for Spike.
"Now, just stand right there, Spikey-Wikey. Just let me try this on you first." Rarity smiled, setting a small hat on his head. "You look just darling, Spikey-Wikey."

Spike looked at the sandwich, his stomach sending out a low growl and his mouth watering at the sight of it. He hasn't realized that he was so hungry! His eagerness to reach the boutique had caused him to skip breakfast by accident. He returned a gracious nod before snatching it up. "Hey, thanks! Yeah, you're right about the gems. They may be my favorite snack, but that doesn't mean I don't like a good sandwich though!" He hungrily began to chow down on the morsel.
The baby dragon paused for a moment after Horizon had introduced himself. He was "with" Rarity? What did that exactly mean? The thought settled uncomfortably in his mind. Oh, of course, it probably meant that he was living with her! Perhaps she was renting a room out, or was just helping out an old friend? Spike smiled, pleased with his reasoning and continued eating.
Down from the stairs, he saw her arrive. Rarity entered the room and Spike's attention was immediately drawn to her. His eyes widened and his spirit soared; the unicorn was just as radiant as he last remembered. He blushed as Rarity showered him with affection, repeating the new pet name he had received. Given from anypony else, he would have detested it, but hearing the name from the fair Rarity had such a pleasant ring to it.
Spike adjusted the small hat on top of his head now. "It's lovely, Rarity," he simply replied. Admittedly, he felt quite sophisticated with the fancy piece on, changing his posture so to reflect it.

Horizon shrugged, "sorry 'bout that, Rari, but him told ya be expectin' help, aye, Spike?" The stallion glanced at the dragon, nodding. "Dinnae know ye'd have an assistant. Whatcha gonna be workin' on, mind me inquirin'?" The Pegasus moved about, his tail swishing around wildly as it usually did when the pony was anxious. He had planned something for today, and if Spike stayed for long, he'd have to reschedule it.. but Rarity would put away other things to be with him, wouldn't she?
Horizon frowned at the way the mare spoke to the baby dragon, and swallowed a chuckle. 'Spikey-Wikey, huh?' He grinned and moved around the two. "So, huh", he began, "still be doin' the thing me's toldcha earlier this eve, dear? Or didcha have 'nother stuff planned fer today?" Horizon didn't like being put away for somepony - or dragon- else, though the time he had spent with Rarity had done much to dull the sharpest edge off the straightforward Pegasus. The white mare had changed him much in the weeks they had been together, much more than Horizon imagined would have been possible.
"Aye, the hat's fittin' well", he agreed with the two as Rarity tried it on Spike, nodding in agreement. There was something odd going on about between the dragon and the Unicorn; he could taste something strange in the air between them, and he didn't like it one bit, but couldn't quite put his hoof on it.

While Rarity was busy making and extra stitch for the hat while Spike stayed in place, she also listened to what Horizon had to say. Rarity tried her very best to remember what that thing he told her to do was, but drew a blank. "I'm sorry, dear. What was it you wanted me to do? You see I've been so caught up in this hat for Spikey-Wikey, I've had no time for other things!" Rarity giggled, admiring her hat on the baby dragon.
"Be sure to stay right there, Spikey-Wikey." Rarity continued, with one eye on Horizon, hoping perhaps she could remember. When she looked back she noticed she had accidentally poked Spike in the head with a needle. While she knew it wouldn't hurt him, she still pulled her needle back. "Oh! Spikey-Wikey! I'm so sorry about that!" She turned to Horizon. "Horizon, could you perhaps go into the kitchen, or upstairs? I simply can't work with you there...!"

Spike was experiencing pure bliss now. Whenever the dress-maker was happy, he was as well. Her laugh made him chuckle too, a dreamy smile stretching across his face. He was temporarily brought back to his senses when Horizon mentioned having plans with Rarity. Spike shuffled uncomfortably in place. He didn't want to feel like he was intruding...though he certainly did not want to give up any time he could spend with lady Rarity!
The needle may have struck him in the head, but the tiny dragon didn't even flinch. For him, the prick of a needle was hardly even noticeable with his tough scales. "No worries, Rarity! Hard scales and such, you know?"
Spike nodded in agreement with the unicorn, "Yes, Miss Rarity needs her full concentration."

Horizon blinked a few times, when Rarity asked what they had planned for today, and shook his head. "Nothin', luv. Nothin' 'portant anyroad", he replied in a slightly grumpier voice than he intended. He knew the mare had a lot to do, but forgetting so completely? She hadn't done so before. "We be doin' that some other day, 'kay?", He added in a much softer voice. Before he could continue, however, the seamstress shooed him away, much to the stallion's displeasure. He lowered his head, angling his neck, and put back his ears.
"Fine", he growled. "Me'll be outside. Flyin'." Then the Pegasus turned and trotted out of the room and the Boutique, sulking and sour-spirited. He slammed the door behind him and immediately took to the skies, feeling strangely jealous to the little dragon, but more than anything he was angry at Rarity for dismissing him so lightly. The Pegasus flew far and high from the Boutique, fueled by a slight annoyance and anger that transformed into a white-hot rage as he ascended. It was illogical and vain, but he was yet furious - a spark of his old self surfaced, wanting to maim and maul something until it stopped being fun.
Flare folded his wings and fell down freely, until he reopened them and swooped down a grass field near a river. He slowly landed and went to the waters for a drink, hoping it would cool his searing fury, but it didn't. He felt just as venomous as he had just moments before. His wings beat the air once more and the Pegasus took to the skies, looking for something that would put his mind off things. He needed adrenaline in his veins, someplace dangerous and deadly to fly in, the rush that only breakneck speed and great risk could give.

Rarity halted her work as she watched Horizon storm out the door. "Whatever do you think has Horizon so flustered?" Rarity pondered for a moment before returning to work. She looked around a moment later, putting on her red glasses. They were crucial for important matters such as this hat. "You know Spikey-Wikey, you're lucky you've got the head of a foal, or else this never would have worked." Rarity laughed aloud to herself.
"Now, didn't you tell me you had a piece you wanted to show me?" Rarity wondered if he had actually brought the garment she had requested. "Something about a top hat, cape and a moustache? I'm sure it looks absolutely darling! You know, the one you mentioned on the same day Opalescences favourite toy went missing?" Hopefully she could add this to her new line of spring suits. "Spring has Sprung will be my greatest new line of garments, not too soon, but not soon enough! I must remind myself to thank Pinkie Pie for the glorious idea!"
Rarity looked to the kitchen as she had been in her inspiration room all day. "Say, Spike? I heard the fridge door open, did you by chance take anything from there? Or, was that Horizon?" Rarity wondered why in Equestria one would go into HER fridge and not even bother to ask if she was hungry!

Spike thought over Rarity's question to himself as well. Horizon did seem quite upset that Rarity was spending the day with him instead of whatever they had planned. He reasoned that this was important work for miss Rarity though, and that any plans could wait.
He had been hesitant at first to keep the outfit that Rarity had requested. It had a some awful memories attached to it: stealing from Rarity, his anger at Owlowlicious and even thinking he had lost Twilight's friendship. However, he liked the villainous attire too much to simply toss it away. Spike pulled the ensemble from the bag he had brought with him and quickly donned it. He wrapped the cloak around him and struck the pose of a dastardly villain, giving his best, evil laugh. He twirled the moustache with a claw proudly.
"So, what do you think?" Maybe this type of 'stache would appeal to the unicorn, as opposed to his previous attempt with Twilight's spell?
Spike felt a bit guilty for dismissing Horizon so quickly after he had been such a nice guy to him. "Yeah, that was Horizon. He offered me a sandwich," he said rather hollowly . The dragon paused a bit before asking the next question. "So, how do you know Horizon? An old friend of yours?"

Rarity's ears perked up to the question, and her glasses fell to one side of her face. "Actually, Spike." Rarity said while looking over the cape. "It's quite a long story. But since you've been a good little dragon I'll tell you in just a moment." Rarity stopped to look deeply at the hemming in the cape. "Now...why designed this monstrosity?! It looks like it was designed and created by a cross eyed filly!" Rarity bent away in disgust as she came to realize Spike probably made this attire. "O-Or...a very...thoughtful, number one, assistant, yes." Rarity chuckled as she looked back and forth and tried her best to change the subject.
Rarity's stomach growled, reminding her that she was still famished. "Ah, yes, I was going to get something to eat. Perhaps a salad. You just stay right there Spike, I'll tell you all about Horizon while I prepare something for the both of us. That sandwich must not have filled you up."
Rarity hummed a nice tune and made her way to the kitchen, levitating all things necessary to begin. She turned her head back a bit, and began her tale. "You see, it was a while back." Rarity began. Her rambles soon got off topic to more fabulous details, but she told him of the events of the masquerade ball and how she thought she was just being used.
After her salad was done, she sat down by the table, and gestured for him to enter. "And that about covers Horizon and I. All you really have to know is that we're together now. " That was the main point Rarity was trying to make in her story, not aware of how Spike would react. She did, however have the slightest feeling that Spike liked her a little more than a friend, but then again, what stallion didn't? Excluding...some of course.
