It was a normal day for Sweetie Belle. School had just let out and the usual group of friends and herself stayed a while in their crusader clubhouse, concocting a few new hair brain schemes to get their cutie marks; none of them worked. However, the sweet little belle was not "discouraged"; she knew what that meant because she looked it up in a dictionary. She blissfully trotted along back home expecting Rarity to be off with a new colt she had been bragging about. Sweetie Belle didn't recall why; something about "Grown Up Time." it saddened the filly quite a bit. She loved her sister, but lately Rarity was never around.
She hummed a delightful tune as she trotted up the steps to the boutique doors. Taking a small brass key from her saddlebag she turned the lock open and walked inside, utterly surprised to see her sister hard at work under the dim work light at her sewing station surrounded by piles of clothing and cloth. It wasn't peculiarly strange to find her sister hard at work on a project, but this time it seemed as if she'd bitten off more then she could chew...which meant she had more work then she could handle. Sweetie Belle smiled when she remembered she literally thought it meant Rarity was chewing something.
'Maybe I should surprise her!' The filly thought to herself as she trotted behind the pale white worker. 'Yeah! That might cheer her up!' Slowly. Ever so quietly. The only sounds heard were Rarity's grunting, the pinging of the seaming machine and the occasional sigh from the older mare. A large smile adorned Sweetie Belle's Face.
"I"M BACK, RARITY!" She lunged forward to hug her sister.

While Sweetie had been having a good day, Rarity's day was filled with mane-twisting hoof-breaking work. Another huge order, straight from Canterlot. It seemed ever since the ball she had been receiving more and more orders, though she was happy most of the ponies there were much to rich or pish-posh to order something from Ponyville. Although, most of them had their assistants order it for them. Which meant, Rarity had to get to work.
Normally, it was quiet in the Boutique, especially during the early morning, after Rarity sent Sweetie Belle off to school. She was free to eat breakfast, spend some well-loved time with Opal, even if the cat didn't enjoy it, and most importantly begin her dresses. As long as no pony interrupted her, she was sure to get things done, post-haste. Normally, the Boutique was a pleasant place, unless Twilight's button was hanging off her dress again, or Applejack's horrid galoshes had ripped while she was working.
The only time Rarity had off for the matter was the weekends she would spend with Fluttershy, and the occasional tea party. When she heard the door creak open, she could only assume it was Sweetie Belle returning from school. Normally Sweetie would say hi, which didn't bug Rarity too much, and then head upstairs to her room, which is what Rarity was expecting. As Rarity heard the footsteps behind her, she stopped sewing and began to turn around, to see if Sweetie had a problem, or perhaps something to say.
Before she got the chance to, she was hastily tackled by Sweetie, pushing her back and toppling over the week old sewing machine Twilight had just recently bought for her. She let out a high pitched scream as it had not only not broke, but got the needle tangled up in her mane. Rarity lied on the floor, Sweetie Belle hugging her on top as she struggled to move. "Sweetieeee!!!" She yelled out her name in an increasingly high-pitched tone. "What have you done?! My mane! It's caught in the machine!"

The whole world was mute to her, there was nothing she paid attention to besides her and her sister. The warmth of her sister's white fur against her own was a embrace she hadn't felt in a while. She regretted never hugging her before when she'd come home from school. Sweetie Belle missed this feeling more then anything else in Equestria. The only thing she wanted to hear was the soft and welcoming laugh of Rarity's tender, caring vo---
"Sweetieeee!!! "What have you done?! My mane! It's caught in the machine!"
Sweetie Belle's tightly closed eyes suddenly popped open from her fantasy. Slowly, the drew over to Rarity's obviously angry face as it twinges in pain. An odd sound was coming from the machine behind her, almost as if there was a jam or something. Lastly, her eyes glided over to the glorious purple mane of her sister being tangled and pulled by the sewing machine. Finally.. Sweetie Belle put the situation together....as best she could.
"Ohh My! Rarity! What happened?! WHY IS YOUR MANE STUCK LIKE THAT!"
Without a second thought, Sweetie Belle heroically leaped off her sister and over to the nearby desk. Reaching into a drawer she pulled out the longest, sharpest pair of scissors she could find and slowly walked back over to Rarity.'Rarity said I should never run with scissors.....' She took her time, one hoof on the floor before the other. It seemed to almost take an entirety making her way back over to her sister. The only sounds were the slow gentle clops of her hooves and the turning of the jammed sewing machine.

Clop
Clop
Clop
She looked up to Rarity, talking though the scissor handle in her mouth, hoping to say words of encouragement. "Don't fear! Sweetie Belle is here!" Sweetie yelled as she ever so slowly walked towards her sister. 'I don't want to pot an eye out...' she thought to herself. Rarity said she would if she ran with them.

Rarity's eyes shot open as Sweetie retrieved the scissors. Rarity tried to back up, but all that did was tear her mane even more. She tried to levitate the sewing machine with her as she backed away, but the panicked mare couldn't do anything but try her best to back away without tearing anything. "Sweetie!" She called out as Sweetie grabbed the scissors in her mouth. "Don't come near me with those!"
Rarity had already begun freaking out over the needle through her mane, but she could only think of the impending doom that her hair was about to face. "W-We've already tried! You know your special talent isn't cutting manes!" Rarity gulped as Sweetie approached her with the scissors. Sweetie was standing just next to her as she let out a high pitched squeal. "MY MAAAAAAANEE!!"

She was there, right in front of Rarity a few inches away from her delicate purple mane. Closing her eyes and concentrating, her horn began to glow a faint light purple as it levitated into the air. She opened it and closed the sharpened metal talons of the pair quickly to make sure she had a good hold on them. The vorpal coated blade's slice was so quick it cut the air with an audible snicker snack as she slowly levitated it closer to her Sister's hair.
"Don't worry sis. I've done this before. Remember? Ummm... I didn't get my cutiemark, but maybe I ca---"
Before she could finished, Rarity's yell of fear cut her off. Startled by the sudden shriek from her sister, the scissors flew towards the violet mane without regard of her sister's well-being. All Swetie Belle could think was the simple word 'Oops...' as it shot through the boutique missing the mane completely and instead severing the power cord of Rarity's sewing machine, stopping the infernal sound.
"Oops...."

The needle slowly stopped and Rarity was finally free from the contraptions hold. While this was the ideal thing to do, and exactly what Rarity wanted NOT to do. This sewing machine meant a lot to her, since not only did Twilight buy it especially for her, but it marked the bonding of three unicorns over dress-making. She was very upset to see it go, but somehow happy as well. He mane was in one piece, well, as much as one piece could manage, considering there was a giant hole under her ear.
Rarity stood up and dusted herself off, putting her machine back on the table. She let out a sniffle and tossed the machine away, it remaining in her heart forever. "Sweetie Belle." Rarity's voice was low and sad as she let out a sigh. "You know that was a gift from Twilight..." Rarity sighed and turned her back on her younger sister. "I'm afraid you'll have to do chores, or some way to be able to pay for a new one."

She didn't know exactly what she did, but apparently she managed to stop the machine without even trying. Looking over behind Rarity she put two and two together and realized she cut the cord of the sewer completely by accident. The scissors stuck into the floor, the metal blades jammed into the floorboards of the boutique. It was with such forced the metal prongs still twang back and forth. Sweetie Belle could help but let a small joyous smile as she saw the cord severed and the machine slow down. She turned towards her sister, hoping she was alright.
'What! B-but Rarity, What did... I do...." She looked at Rarity with a sad scene hanging in her face before hanging her head in shame
Were the only words she could respond with. She looked back at the sewing machine and back at Rarity's disappointed face. She didn't understand why she was being punished. That sewing machine was going to take FOREVER to pay for. She disappointed her sister and all she wanted to do was spend time with her. She sighed, it seemed like almost anything she did turned out wrong. Sweetie turned and looked over at the machine one last time. A angry glare in her eyes.
"Dumb fabric..."

Rarity strolled over to a mirror and began brushing her mane, so that she could fill the part up that was missing with some extra hair. She couldn't quite get it to work, so she added a special hat to her list of things to sew...to which she remembered she wouldn't be getting to anytime soon, consider the machine was broken. Rarity walked over to Sweetie with an angry frown. Today was a horrible day for them, one even worse since yesterday she was brought away from her work, and today her machine broke. There was no way she could make her hat, or any of the costumes asked for during Nightmare Night.
She crouched down to Sweeties level, her face still flat and angry. Rarity sighed and opened her eyes, bringing her sister in for a hug. She slowly stroked Sweeties mane and hugged her close. "Sweetie...Sweetie...Sweetie. I haven't meant to be this mean lately, I'm sorry...I just...I've had lots of work to do. I'm sure we'll be able to figure out some way to fix the machine...don't worry about paying for it." Rarity was quite upset, at herself mostly. She had been more than unfair to her sister lately.

Sweetie sighed when she was pulled into the warming embrace of her sister. Everything was an accident but she still has something deep down in her gut saying that all this was her fault. She had a worried look in her eyes as she closed them, letting her sister stroke her mane. It was wrong of her to surprise her sister like that, especially when she was under so much stress. Sweetie looked up towards Rarity, still in the heated hug.
"Well.. you're always busy around this time of year. Last time you were like this you were making dresses for Twilight and the others..."
She nuzzled her head in her sister's coat. "I know how crazy you can get, Rarity." she said with a giggle. "I'll be ok."

Rarity smiled, and enjoyed a laugh with her sister before letting her go. She slowly walked over to the machine and levitated it, then walked over to the garbage. She plopped the machine down into the garbage and looked back at her sister, still sporting a smile on her face. "If Twilight asks what happened with the sewing machine, though, I do expect you to be able to answer her truthfully and in a calm manor." Rarity walked back over to her half finished suit for Necrose and set it aside. Poor colt, his suit's only half finished, and Nightmare Night is fast approaching.
Rarity turned and walked back over to her sister. Rarity could tell Sweetie didn't have the best of days, and she figured it would be best to spend some time with her sister. She walked into the kitchen and quickly prepared a glass of water for her sister, levitating it and placing it on the table next to the younger unicorn. "So, Sweetie Belle, tell be about your day, won't you? I'm curious to hear about what Ms. Cheerilee taught you."

Sweetie Belle watched dishearteningly as Rarity levitated the machines over to the trash can. It was a shame that even thought she didn't mean to, she felt she caused Rarity's business to be in jeopardy. She watched the inactive mess of machinery float in to the trash with a gentle and respectful lowering into the tin. Sweetie felt her heart slightly ache as she watched Rarity's face. She wore a small smile, but it was obvious she was hiding how upset she was. Then, an idea struck her for Nightmare Night, "Cutie Mark Crusader : Mechanics."
Her upset expression turned to a full on smile again. As Rarity changed the subject to school, seemingly almost completely forgetting the sewing machine incident. he happily trotted over to Rarity, atleast she was getting what she wanted; the chance to spend more time with her sister.
"Well... today Miss Cheerliee talked to us about Nightmare Night and how it was made nearly 700 years ago. I almost could not believe how old it is. Did you know it's that old, Rare!? I sure as sugar didn't. Appleboom even asked if anypony was ever eaten by Nightmaremoon for not giving her any candy and she said YES!..." Sweetie Belle paused a moment to think, the wheels slowly turning in her head "...Wait a minute.... if I don't get any candy... Won't /I/ Get eaten Rarity?"

Rarity chucked and smiled warmly at her sister. "Why of course you wont get eaten. Remember the tale? She flies above the skies, and only is she see's anypony, she'll eat them. If you're disguised, you're safe, and if you remain indoors, she wont see you. So remember to keep your gang of crusaders inside during the night." Rarity was happy that Sweetie had an exciting day, and was even happier that Horizon had agreed to watch them. It was just a matter of letting Sweetie know.
"And, since we're on the subject of that night, you remember the stallion was I was telling you about, Horizon? Well, not only will he be living here with us for a little bit, but he'll be the one watching you three that night. I do hope you're alright with him living here, I'm certain you two will be the best of friends."

Sweetie /didn't/ remember about Rarity telling her about Horizon, but still she went and listened to Rarity as if she did. The older sister didn't even give her a chance to respond so she just went along with the story. The idea of a colt living here? The thought made Sweetie make a deep gulp. Rarity told her boys.... were for older mares and she shouldn't concern herself with them, but now....
"A.... a colt?...."
Sweetie Belle Looked at her sister in dis-belief. Her eyes looked at the adult mare in a shocked state. If any colts came by it wasn't for long. Just to pick up an order.... What was with this pony then? Why was he special enough to come stay with them. The idea of getting infected with the colt version of cooties made Sweetie Belle question what her sister was even doing.
"I don't know....how can I friends with a colt... You even told me that stallions have coaties..."

"Coaties?" Rarity looked down at her little sister in shock. "No, no, no, dear. You misunderstood my story." Rarity smiled and tried her best to re-explain the story to her sister. "I said, when I was a young filly like you, I used to think the other foals had coaties. Those aren't real things." She chucked. "Don't worry, dear, you'll be completely safe. In fact, now that there's a stallion living with us, you'll be extra safe. He's a very nice pony, and wouldn't do anything to upset you, I promise. He's a pegasus, just like your friend Scootaloo."
Rarity wasn't sure how the two would get along, actually. Usually Sweetie Belle was okay with many things, but a colt living with them, in the Boutique, it was understandable that Sweetie wasn't okay the moment she heard of it. "You're friends with Kimono's nephew, aren't you? Little Machi? He's alright, isn't he?" She tried to use a real life example, so Sweetie would know a little more about what she was talking about.

Sweetie Belle thought back a moment, looking at the floor with one hoof under her chin for concentration. The name was familiar, it just took her a few seconds to piece the information together. Finally, a face matches the name. She remembered running around the Culture Fair with him and the other cutie mark crusaders, causing trouble much to Rarity's dismay. What Rarity did have a point, what made the foal much different then a older colt.... other then age. She couldn't come up with a good reason, so she decided to just follow along with her sister after a few moments of silence.
"Hmm.... I /guess/ you're right..."
She brought her face back to me her sister's.
"You do clean a lot. Maybe those foals were just dirty."
It was obvious Rarity had a small problem with dirt and grime, a true germ-a-phobe if there ever was one. Sweetie Belle understood that, she was always tiding up the place. If this colt was even the slightest bit dirty, Rarity might have a meltdown; something Sweetie would like to avoid at any cost.
"Is he at least.... clean?"
