Horizon swooped down from the sky, and landed on the playground outside the Ponyville schoolhouse, beating his wings and raising a small cloud of dust as he gently landed, hovering down the last few inches, hitting the ground one hoof at a time. The Pegasus glanced around at the foals gathering about, ready for a new day at the school, learning things and playing during the breaks, and rolled his eyes. How had he ever accepted to do this? Of course, since Rarity had learned he couldn't read or write, she had acted like it was the end of the world, and demanded he learn. He was happy to oblige her - being not able to read had been bugging him his whole life, but he didn't want to go to school with.. foals. It felt humiliating. And from what he had heard about schools was that they were practically jails, utterly boring and filled with horrible teachers that agonized their students.
The Pegasus sighed, kicked a pebble with his hoof and began to walk towards the schoolhouse, head held low and glaring about, feathers ruffled. Halfway there, he sighed, stopped and stood up, deciding that if he had to do this, at least he should face the horrors of school like a stallion. His wings beat the air defiantly as he began trotting inside just as the bell rang, signaling that the first lesson of the day was about to start. Foals crowded into classrooms, and Horizon, not sure about where he should go, simply wandered into one of them. He watched the other students take their places, and frowned.
The Pegasus halted at the door of the classroom and leaned against the wall, casually observing the room. He felt a bit skittish.. odd how he had never been to a school before. It seemed such a long, long time since he had been the same age as these little ponies. He smirked a bit, remembering the shenanigans he'd done at their age, but at the same time felt a little jealous for them.

Applebloom got in a little later than she should have that day, considering Big Macintosh's leg was once again injured, and they needed a little more help bucking the apples down. Even though Applebloom wasn't the greatest, in a few kicks, some apples would fall. Applejack would usually have to come in and finish the job, but she liked helping nonetheless. She walked in and saw a large black coated pony blocking the entrance. At first, she had no idea who it could have been, but after approaching the pony by the front, she realized it was Sweetie Belle's sister's coltfriend. The one they met on Nightmare Night.
"Ah s'cuse me, mister Horizon. Ah need to get in that there classroom." Applebloom tried, and eventually squeezed her way in. She saw Sweetie, and Scootaloo waiting for her like a usual morning, but something was off to her. Usually Rarity was up every morning to drop Sweetie Belle off, but for some reason, Rarity wasn't here. She figured maybe Horizon had done it today. "Hey, mister. Did ya'll drop Sweetie Belle off with Rarity? Or wuz it just you?" Applebloom was filled with questions, but as she heard the bell ring for class time, she asked her final question. "So if ya dropped her off, why ain't'cha leavin'? It's time fer class to start, ah think ya'll better skedaddle."

Horizon glanced down when he heard an oddly familiar voice, and shifted, letting the filly pass. He frowned, trying to remember her name.. It had apples in it, of that he was sure. Appleseed? Applepie? He coudn't remember, even though it was right on the tip of his tongue. "Oh, howdy, lil' one", he greeted her. "Well, uh.. actually me's bein' here fer.. umm, eh, learnin' to decipher 'em scribbles ya call letters, savvy?" He chuckled a bit, thinking of how confusing that must've sounded to the filly, to have an adult stallion who couldn't read. "Y'know, back when me was ya age, me dinnae have meself an 'cation like ye. So, dear Rarity's gotten me into school, aye?"
The Pegasus stretched his wings and looked around at the glass again. "So, eh", he leaned towards Applebloom, lowering his voice. "What's me's s'posed to be doin', then? An' 'em teachers really that terrible as 'em says, eh? An' who's it gonna be anyways, huh?" He could've almost laughed at his situation; it was somehow so very absurd to see himself in a classroom.. but it was worth it. He wondered how long it would take until he'd be able to read properly. A few days, perhaps? If fillies could learn in a few months or a year, it couldn't be that hard, right?

Sweetie Belle was quiet anxious about today. Normally she'd walk back and forth from school to her home with mom and dad but today the real issue was standing right between the doorframe between the classroom and the hallway. The large thick burley winged pegasus standing there waiting to gain entry into the classroom and talking to one of her best filly friends and fellow cutie mark crusader Applebloom.
Sweetie Belle pouted and just stared at them talking, actually WANTING class to start so they'd stop. Horizon's entrance had been less then enthusiastic for the small filly. First, he was taking time away from sister bonding time with Rarity. They normally had it every week ever since the sisterhood competition, but now it was getting less and less time between them. Then Horizon moved up into the room Sweetie Belle's room that she normally would stay at when visiting Rarity and now he was in her classroom.
The little mare just gave him the dirtiest look her cute little face could muster and leaned over to talk to Scootaloo. "He's trying to steal my life...I KNOW he is..."

Cheerilee, however, was all but unaware about the tensions in the room; Rarity had come to her to ask her a bit about having a new student enter the class -a full grown stallion! She hadn't taught many adult ponies; Cheerilee's profession, in her mind, was to teach and guide the young and impressionable towards the right moral path. She had never had a mother. Because of this, she often attempted to act as something of a surrogate mother to all of her students. This was why Cheerilee was so well-loved in Ponyville by the foals. They came to her with problems, asked her questions that foals might not normally ask a teacher, and even occasionally asked to play with her. She didn't always have time for the latter, but she made time if she could. All of her free time was spent on the foals, or else helping her sister, Berry Punch, recover from a hangover. To her sister, she was just as much a psychologist; how many times had the drunken Berry Punch bawled on Cheerilee's bed about how she wished they had had a 'mommy', talk about how much she missed her...She sighed. Of course, she had agreed to help out Rarity's coltfriend in the end - but he would have to do his best to be nice to the foals! So, she trotted in that morning, fully expecting an interesting and fun experience.
However, she didn't anticipate the swagger with which he moved, the inherent grace with with he moved, his accent, or his drop-dead sexy appearance. The lonely, single mare of thirty-four began to drool almost instantly. Sitting down at her desk, she couldn't tear her eyes from Horizon. He was a fine specimen of a male.
"Class is beginning, students!" She managed shakily, nervous now. "Let's quiet down now, dears. We have a new student joining us today! Mister Flare, would you care to stand and introduce yourself to the class and explain the special reason for which you are here?" She asked in extra- saccharine tones as she addressed the gorgeous male.

When Cheerilee arrived, the stallion moved away from the doorway, winking at Applebloom. "See ya later, kiddo, aye?" He whispered, standing up and looking at the teacher as she entered the classroom. She was younger than he'd expected; Horizon thought all teachers as miserly crones and nags, but this one was a rather winsome adult mare. There was, however something even more curious about her behavior, something that the Pegasus took note of immediately. The way she looked at him made him flash his trademark grin; a roguish, charming smile, and nodded sharply when she addressed him. First impressions were good at least, maybe this whole 'learning to read' thing wouldn't be so horrible after all.. especially with a teacher like that mare.
"Aye, bonnie", he answered her, and stepped out in front of the class. He looked at the foals, seeing Sweetie Belle and her friends amongst them - slight frown passed his features. The filly and he didn't get along at all, although he didn't understand why she disliked him so. Ignoring Rarity's little sister, the Pegasus began to introduce himself. "So, yours truly here be Horizon Flare, an aerobat an' world-weathered vagabond. Why's me here's then, be fer insight an' sagacity. Ain't ever gotten the luxury o' bein' taught 'em letters an' how 'em works, so here me be. Me métier be flyin' an aerobatics.. an', well, there'd be tale an' taradiddle to blather 'bout fer an infinity, so lemme just aver me be delighted to be 'cepted here. Don't play rough with me afore me's getin' into the ropes, aye?" He glanced behind him at Cheerilee, winking.
The stallion finished his introductions and trotted past the other students to his own desk at the back of the room, sat down and casually leaned backwards against a wall. He felt a bit crowded in the classroom, his tail swishing wildly from side to side; the Pegasus disliked being indoors with many ponies more often than not. He was much, much more comfortable outside, or anywhere he could stretch his wings and move around freely.

Cheerilee listened to his introduction, trying as hard as she could to remain aloof to his inherent charisma and charm. She managed to mostly examine his introduction from an objective standpoint - but she couldn't help but check out his nice, muscular flanks when he moved to sit down - he was an interesting male, for certain, especially that pretty rump of his...she cleared her throat. It was no professional way to act, checking out a new student. she instead focused on the students, watching the almost comically big pony sitting in the back row. Standing, she moved to the front of the class, all of whom seemed enraptured by the words Horizon had just said. She gave him a little, not entirely innocent wink and smiled at her class.
"Yes! Horizon Flare: treat him nicely, everypony. You were all new students once, of course. Now...we will be spending time reviewing basic reading and writing concepts to start off today before we move into the main lesson." She paused, moving across to the blackboard. Putting a hoof up, she used a stick of chalk to write her name on the board, her flank bobbing a little. The foals would see nothing there, but she was aware now how much she might have inadvertently been showing off for a full-grown stallion. Blushing a little, she took a deep breath, trying to control herself - funny, how one student could make her feel so much different about things she did every day.
"Now! My name, as I sure you all know: Mrs. Cheerilee. Now, we'll play popcorn to pick somepony to write their name on the board. Applebloom! Come write you name on the board, sound it out, and then pick somepony else to write theirs." She said; there was a resounding cheer from the class. They loved popcorn, because whoever got picked first was allowed to get all of their friends to answer questions and show off to each other. This went even doubly so, since there was a new student. While the class was distracted by Applebloom, she looked at Horizon, shivering where she stood at the mere sight of him. What was with this big stallion?!

Horizon was unaware that he was being observed with such a keen eye; he wouldn't have been surprised, however, as he had the looks and he knew it. His fur was a dark, almost black, gray, his fur smooth and his mane was long and unkempt, the deep red and black stripes framing his sleek features. His physique was fitting for an aerobat.. or a cat burglar. His legs were long, and his wings similarly massive. The Pegasus' eyes were the color of reddish brown, like red clay, but in bright light, they glinted in gold and crimson red. To put it shortly, he was a tall, athletic, slender and lithe stallion.
Of course, Cheerilee wasn't the only one enjoying eye candy; as soon as she turned towards the chalkboard, the stallion raised an eyebrow and nodded his head approvingly. There was a mare that had flank! He leaned back, grinning wolfishly, and continued to devour the mare with his eyes.. for a moment, he thought about what Rarity would say if she knew he was looking at other mares, but the Pegasus brushed the though aside. She wouldn't know, and what bad was there about watching, huh?
Popcorn? The stallion didn't know what the game was, but followed Applebloom write her name, and then pick one of her friends to write hers. He observed carefully; Wild Card had once said that he had a quick mind and enough wits for almost anything, but despite that, he had never been to school.. this was all so odd and unfamiliar.

Applebloom was busy having a conversation to Sweetie Belle about the new stallion in the class. "So wut's with the new pony. He ain't small like us little ponies. And he's got his cutie mark. But we already asked him how he got his, and it ain't workin'. It's just another thing fer Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon to talk about. And we ain't gettin' our marks anytime sooner.
Applebloom's attention was redirected as Cheerilee called out her name. She turned away from her conversation and wondered why something so easy was called upon her. It was the new pony, wasn't it. "C'mon Miss. Cheerilee, ya'll know ah can spell mah own name, don't'cha? A-P-P-L-E-B-L-O-O-M! Ah think we're doing this for the new pony. Why do we have to spell out stuff cuz he ain't doin' so well in his good talkin' like the rest of us?" She felt harsh saying that, but she really did want to get back to her conversation and felt slightly insulted that she had to answer a question like that.

Mrs. Cheerilee sighed, rolling her eyes; she should have known that Applebloom would be difficult about it. She nodded. "Yes, Applebloom, part of the reason we were going over this is because of Horizon. You know if a pony misses a lesson I always go over it for them before continuing on. How would you feel if you got sick for a week and couldn't keep up with the rest of the class, hm?" She asked, looking down at the foal, raising an eyebrow. "Now...nevermind it, then. We'll be doing regular lessons, for now. Horizon, you'll just have to stay after for reading and writing until you catch up with your fellow students. Now..."
She moved over to the board, blinking a bit - Horizon being in the room was disorienting her. The day's lessons seemed to go faster than usual, and of course there was the big male in the back, always watching her, his eyes on her flank. She could feel it....and she turned a few times, giving him a glance when the rest of the class was doing their work, and even though the room was filled with ponies, she felt as if she was alone with him. When it was all over and the foals were filing out of the room, she approached him. The sun was high in the sky, the cool air outside contrasted by the nice weather.
"Horizon." She nodded at him, blushing as she looked at the handsome stallion.

The Pegasus followed the lessons with interest, at first, but soon grew bored - not that the other students cold tell, since he seemed to be very interested at something going on in front of class.. He leaned back in a carefree manner, and whenever the bell rang signaling a recess, the stallion waited for everypony else to leave the class first, before he got up and slowly walked outside, where he'd lazily walk to an oak tree and lie down under it's shade, head between his front legs and wings spread out on the grass, until the bell called the students for another class. He'd get up, stretch his legs and wings, and follow the foals inside, taking his seat at the back of the class. This happened on every break, almost monotonously.
At the end of the day, the stallion began fidgeting anxiously. He thought about spending days, maybe weeks, with this teacher, and the thought made him nervous.. he hadn't been he most loyal of ponies until he met Rarity, and the more he thought about it, the more it seemed like he was.. cheating on her, even now. The Pegasus sighed in relief when the final hour came to an end, and he was just about to leave for the Boutique and tell Rarity he'd not go to school anymore.. but before he'd get up, the voluptuous teacher approached him, walking across the room.. the Pegasus had noticed her voice when she spoke to him, and the looks she had given him when the foals wouldn't notice. He'd been around enough to know what those things meant.
"Huh, yo, miss Cheerilee. Whatcha be needin'?" He said, feigning innocence, standing up and sliding his chair under the desk with his wing. He tilted his head to the side, waiting for what the teacher would have to say. Taking into account the behavior both of them had exercised during the day, it couldn't be anything good.

Cheerilee stared at Horizon all the while, eventually coming to his desk. She was watching him all the while, the rippling of his muscular form like water, skin stretching over his generous musculature, great wings folded at his sides for now. She could tell that if he were to spread those massive wings, he could pull his large body into the air and fly with little effort. She smiled as she looked up at him - she drank in everything about him, his accent, the tone of his voice, his smell and form. The teacher was certain all of the foals had gone home now, and she leaned forward.
"Oh, I was just letting you know that, to catch up with the class' writing and reading lessons, we'll have to do private ones. I was wondering if you'd prefer to come in before class, or after. I am available for either." She said, relishing the idea of teaching this handsome male in private - she couldn't believe that this stallion was Rarity's coltfriend! He was dead sexy, and while maybe not the smartest pegasus in the world, Cheerilee decided she would try and fix that.
"So...would you like a lesson now, Horizon?"

The Pegasus blinked a few times when the mare spoke, focusing more onto her form than the words she said. He pondered and pondered, trying to decide if he should leave now and go to Rarity, or stay. When Cheerilee asked him a question, the stallion grinned, like he had just seen an open bank vault. "Aye, me can be stayin' after, if ya wanna. Ain't got much travail this eve, so, aye." The mare before him was interesting, to say at the least. While Rarity was gorgeous, beautiful like a fashion model and possessed unmatched elegance, this teacher.. she was more.. sultry, luscious, walked with a delectable, flank-swaying gait and had an enchanting gaze, one that had told the Pegasus much during the day.. Wait, what. The Pegasus thought, Eyes off, you bloody idiot. She's just your teacher, don't go there, Flare. These 'private classes' will be just that and nothing more.
"So", the Pegasus said, averting his eyes and looking the mare in the eyes, "what would ya have me do, first, then? Ain't all there with how's this be a-workin', ken?" The Pegasus shrugged. He really had no idea how teaching somepony to read would work, or how you could teach something like that, but if everypony else knew how to do it, then it shouldn't be too difficult.

Sweetie belle coughed loudly as the two adults were talking. They seemed to be in their own little world, completely forgetting that they had an entire class of students sitting behind them that stared awkwardly at the two grown ponies conversation. The way the two looked at one another and even acted just seemed unusual, as if the two were telling a joke that the fillies and foals didn't quite understand. Noticing that she didn't get their attention the first time; she coughed again. Louder.
"AH HEM!!!" " Excuuuuuse me, but we are trying to le*Voice Crack*arn!"
She said aloud with a sour expression on her face. Normally Sweetie belle didn't care about learning in school. She just wanted an excuse to make Horizon seem like a meanie.

Applebloom was sitting beside Sweetie Belle the moment she let out her aggravated squeal, but only sighed. She already had her saddle bag on, and most of the foals had already left the class. "Uh, Sweetie Belle, ya'll know class ain't in session no more, don't'cha?" Indeed it was, all of Sweetie aggravation must have got to her head, since everypony else heard the bell chime, as did Applebloom. Who had been trying to make contact with her friend for the past ten minutes. "Ya'll goin' back home today or is Horizon gonna be Rarity's new sister too?"
Applebloom was of course kidding. She jumped off her seat and walked to the door, waiting for her friend to follow. She watched Sweetie in anticipation, hoping she would move a little quicker than she normally would. "C'mon Sweetie Belle! Applejack said the caramel'd be ready by the time ah got home t'day!"
