Braeburn heaved the last basket of apples to the storing area. He'd finished his quota, and just in time too. It was a bit cold out, but he was still sweating. He'd wanted to get done quick so he'd have the rest of the day to himself. He hadn't gotten a proper look around the town yet. His kin and the other part time workers were great to talk with, but he wanted to see who else Ponyville had to offer.
He got a little washed up before heading to the center of the town. He decided not to enter the tavern. He liked a drink every now and then, but someponies dont. Kinda limits who you meet and all. After a bit of walking, he took refuge under a shady tree, yawning. He was still slightly fatigued from his daily chores, though no more than usual.

Braeburn was not that lucky, though. His resting would have to wait, as a stray apple from atop the tree landed directly on his head. This was no coincidental, or the discovery of gravity. Instead, there was a filly up in the tree who looked cautious. Apparently, this pony was playing hide and seek with her friends. Soon later, another friend had found her. A third pony soon came running along. The third pony was none other than Braeburn's cousin Applebloom. The other two ponies were both members of her group of friends known as the 'Cutie Mark Crusaders'.
While the other two were prepared for more crusading, Applejack had told Applebloom to get home early, as the quota would be finished early, which meant there would be an early dinner. Applebloom noticed her cousin under the tree and was happy to see him. "Oh, hey cuz!" Applebloom looked back to her two friends. "Ah can't stay out fer much longer. Applejack sez the quota's gonna be finished an ah need t'get home quicker than a jack rabbit runnin' from th'law." The other two looked upset and went their different ways while Applebloom stayed with her cousin, looking up to him. "So cuz, ain't we supposed make our way back t'the farm soon?"

Braeburn was initially annoyed by the apple, but upon finding out why it had happened, a smile came across him. The lil' rascals.... It was nice to see AppleBloom playing with friends. He remembered way back when she was just a foal, and much later in his letters to AppleJack on how she was having trouble finding friends. Now just look at her. She'd get her special talent someday....
Braeburn adjusted his vest before addressing Applebloom. "An thats jus' why a'hm out here." He said, ruffling her mane. "Applejack said ya'll might get..... Distracted on yer way back. C'mon, supper'll be ready by the time we get back, an if ya'll don't eat, you'll never get big and strong, or get yer cutie mark!" He threatened. He started to walk the path home, gesturing applebloom to follow.

Applebloom's eyes opened wide. "Ya mean ah ain't gonna get mah cutie mark if ah don't eat nuthin'?!" This was startling news! Recently, she hadn't been a fan of Granny Smith's cooking, since Applejack was out bucking apples, the old pony had to fill in as baker. She would usually sneak an apple or two before bed just so she wouldn't starve. "Thanks fer pickin' me up n'all, but we gotta get home real quick! Ahm gonna eat every single thing on everyponies plate! Then ah'll get an eatin' cutie mark fer sure!"
Applebloom bounced up ahead of her cousin, always far ahead of him, but never out of sight. "C'mon cuz! Mah cutie mark ain't gonna wait fer ever!" Applebloom was obviously agitated, but also amazed. All this time they were doing other things for their cutie mark when all they had to do was eat as much as they could! She couldn't wait to tell the other crusaders. Although, it didn't quite make sense to her why ponies with their cutie marks were thin, but still had to eat all that food. "Wait, cuz, if eatin' is what we gotta do to get our mark, how come Applejack and Granny Smith are so skinny?"
(And how come Rarity is so fabulous, chic, magnificent and all around best poni?)

Braeburn walked a bit faster too keep up with the eccentric Applebloom. He shook his head, chuckling. "Well see here, Applebloom. Eatin' dont get you a cutie mark, but it gives you energy so you can get your cutie mark. Imagine your special talent was sumthin' hard to do. Well, if ya'll never have enough energy, you'll never find out your talent, get it?" One of these days that filly'll do something crazy, he thought. No wonder AppleJack needed extra farm help with her around. But, he was sure he wasn't much better himself at that age.
After that, Braeburn started prattling about the importance of a healthy diet. And soon after, why you should stay in school. And then not to make friends who are bad influences. Eventually he got to the topic of apples, somehow. "And thats how you can turn apples into energy. Apples are kinda weird in the way that theres so many different kinds of 'em. We had a small patch in Appleloosa full of the apple Ah was named after, Braeburn apples! Lot of the apple family was named after apples, y'know. Like a good luck charm fer the rest of your life!...." As always, Braeburn was getting carried away with his conversations....
