Equine silhouettes darted from between the gnarled boughs, nearing the home of the forest’s resident zebra. The night air was cool and humid, and clouds formed dark colossi without the aid of pegasi. A low rumble of thunder echoed in the sky, and rain began to hiss against the roof of Zecora’s hut. In the clearing before the home there stood, identities veiled via black shrouds, what appeared to be a murder of crows. A name far less threatening that the group itself, or at least it was for the time being. The death of a pony - or the death of a zebra, for that matter - was not part of the plan.
One of the members of the small aggregation rose a hoof, signalling for the others to get into their positions. The pegasi in the group perched themselves upon the treetops, while the unicorns, and perhaps an earth pony or two, remained outside. The purpose of having so many ponies - about fifteen - come simply to break into a home was not the danger of being injured by the hut’s inhabitant but the other inhabitants of Everfree Forest. The faction decided to sneak over to Zecora’s home in the night, which, though great for catching her off-guard, happened to be the same time that many of the larger Everfree creatures, ursas included, came out to hunt. Tonight was not a night to take chances.
A mare in the group looked through the window, her horn glowing with a grey-cyan aura. This is the right place. I know it. After a moment, she stepped through the window, allowing herself to levitate slightly off the ground lest she make noise. Observing the zebra’s hut, she noticed, among other items that may have had medical significance but were of no importance to the operation, of the materials she sought sitting on a table. This would certainly be an easy effort - if she could just get across the room without making to much noise, she could-
The mare, focused on the destination but not at all on the journey, bumped into a wooden sculpture and winced at the loud thudding nose it made as it hit the floor.
