Twilight tried to calm DuMourne somewhat "Well, we don't know anything about it yet, so don't go jumping to conclusions!" So this is what the princess meant by public panic. She instantly felt regret. Then again, she knew she would have felt regret weather or not she showed DuMourne the letter. She was starting to lose it. "What do I do, what do I do?" She mumbled inaudibly.
As DuMourne grabbed the quill, she stomped her hoof noisily. "NO!" She yelled very loud and powerfully. She tried to calm herself for a second before speaking again. "Don't you see how scared you are even though you don't know that much about it? We can't have this going around the public. Make sure you stress that in your letter!" Her voice was stern and dominant. She turned away from DuMourne, sighing, as she felt almost no matter what would happen she was fighting a losing battle. "Oh Celestia, what have I gotten myself into?"

Twilight's reaction to his actions caused him to jump, the quill flying into the air and landing several meters away from where he was standing. She really wanted to keep this information from Chercher and the others, was it that bad? But then a startling realisation caused him even more panic.
Without warning he was in front of Twilight, a look of panic and fear as his face was ghostly white, his hooves on her and shaking her slightly.
"Y-you don't understand. What if this creature can be transferred to other ponies. They've gotta know about this before it's too late." He said.
His eyes grew wider and he froze.
"What if it's already too late? What if they're all infected?"

Twilight grabbed DuMournes tail with magic hoisting him off the ground. "Quiet!" She yelled. "Listen DuMourne, our main focus is figuring out what this is and fixing it. We're not here to go crazy and panic." She grimaced, realizing she talked about herself as if she were part of the group. She kind of was at this point. Twilight was developing a headache again.
Rubbing her forehead, she let DuMourne down saying "Panic doesn't get things done, and you better calm down or else." She said sternly. If DuMourne freaked out again she couldn't be held accountable for what she did.... "We need to tell Chercher, but make sure he doesn't go telling other ponies who have nothing to do with it! Got it?" She said irritated.

DuMourne wriggled around as Twilight hoisted him into the air by his tail. He could feel his tail detaching from his flank as he was hanging like a pinata, but was thankful Spike didn't come in with a bat.
"Ok ok, I'm calm!" He shouted. "Just put me down."
Twilight complied and let him go. He was never good at stomaching magic, it felt so weird even if it was only his tail, so when he was on the ground again he felt dizzy. He shook his head to stay focus before looking at Twilight again, doing his best not to get scared again.
"I'm calm. We need to tell Chercher about this, it could help him find a cure for it." He said, trotting to the desk. "Don't worry, i'll tell Chercher to keep it under wraps."
He grabbed the quill and waited to see if Twilight would react. After a few minutes he began to write his note.

Twilight was somewhat happy DuMourne had calmed himself. She began pacing. The word seemingly faded away as she paced back and forth in an endless expanse of darkness. She shut out DuMourne, she shut out Spike, she shut out everything. Even her emotions shut off. Her thoughts floated past her in the darkness like clouds. She looked at all the problems analytically through her despondant mirror like eyes. She thought for centuries on how this could even remotely go well. The populace would have to be informed eventually if no cure was found. There would be panic. Just like with DuMourne, but a thousand times worse. Twilight didn't like panic. Panic was inefficient. If it was a very serious ailment, there would be mass quarantine. Deaths even. True chaos would come over the lands. Chaos was bad. Chaos helped nopony. Chaos was inefficient. Chaos needed to be stopped.
Slowly the world faded back. The darkness turned to faded and smeared colors and then into recognizable shapes. She was in the library. Only a few moments had passed. Twilight blinked once. Twice. The usual life returned to her appearance. She sat down, her head hurting once more. The virus needed to be stopped before it spread. Based on DuMourne's reaction to it, it was very possible this would turn into an epidemic...

"Ok, just calm down DuMourne, everything's gonna be fine, just write a message to Chercher and this'll all be over and done with before it gets worse." He said to himself rather crazily.
For ten agonising minutes he tried to send an appropriate letter to Anvil Gait, ripping and discarding parchment after parchment from failed attempts at writing the letter to Chercher. He couldn't word it right without showing he was in a panic about it, he would go into either too much detail or make it sound like it was a sign of the apocalypse. But still he continued.
Satisfied with the twentieth attempt at writing a letter, he rolled it up and sealed it, throwing it to Twilight so she could send it.
"Ok, i think i got down the basics. Send that to him and only time will tell it that'll be any help in curing this new illness." He sighed. "I sure as sugar hope it does."

Twilight magic'd the scroll to Spike who then in turn sent it off to Chercher. Her expression was bland aside from the slight annoyance of her headache. She wasn't surprised anymore. She was still scared, but she did her best to mask it for DuMourne's sake. She wasn't sure of what to do about the illness at this point except wait for the letter which might just end up making more problems.
